British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has faced mounting pressure from within his own party to officially recognize Palestine as a state, with Labour MPs and voters having long voiced their horror at Israel’s war.
The Labour leader has been walking a political tightrope around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in his party, which was mired in allegations of antisemitism under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn. In 2020, the UK’s human rights watchdog found Labour to be responsible for “unlawful” acts of harassment and discrimination during Corbyn’s leadership.
